Man, I love a great prank. It's a testament to how your coworkers felt about you, to go to all that trouble and, more importantly, to know you were strong enough to handle it. I was once re-pranked by my boss after I put fake parking tickets on people's cars in the company lot. They were clearly bogus with ridiculous names and numbers but weeks later I got called into his office to find the head of HR and a police officer. After admitting my prank the officer said he would have to arrest me for impersonating law enforcement. I honestly thought my life was over. After about 15 minutes of terror they finally relieved me by calling in the people I had pranked with the tickets and they agreed not to press charges and everyone broke out in laughter. Except me. Eventually. I do think, like yours, it went a little too far, but I was honored to have been the target.
I had no reason not to. The part of the story I didn't have time to tell was that months before at the beginning of the show there was a minor scandal about the producers faking bits. None of those bits aired, but it put me off my guard. I never thought they'd try to trick me for fear of people thinking it was staged.
